With the blessing of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, the festival was founded in 2006. The International Charitable Foundation of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia and “Akaki Ramishvili Foundation – Tradition and Innovation” are the founders of the festival.
About us
In the 21st century Georgia moved to a qualitatively new stage of its development. Owing to numerous objective as well as subjective reasons, many obstacles emerged on its way to the construction of an independent state. These found their reflection both in the domestic as well as foreign life of the country.
In the time of universal globalization, political and economic boundaries of countries lose their former significance and a difficult process of assimilation of various nations and cultures is ongoing. Under the circumstances, cultural domain remains to be a chief factor to define the national identity. This is especially so for a small country like Georgia. As his Holiness and Beatitude, the Catholicos-Patriarch of All-Georgia Ilia II has stated in one of his epistles, “Georgia will survive and find its unique place in the world only in case it manages to create a Georgian state based on modern technologies and achievements. It is of vital importance for our existence and further development to prove capable to meet these two conditions. Otherwise, our country is bound to bear deplorable consequences (Paschal epistle, 23 April 2006).
Proceeding from its historic tradition, the Orthodox Church of Georgia became one of the main pillars and driving forces for the construction of the new Georgian state. This has been revealed not only in the religious and ecclesiastical activities, but in all spheres of social, political and cultural life of the country as well.
The establishment of the International Charity Foundation of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia for the Revival and Development of Spirituality, Culture and Science served precisely the end of contributing to the revival of the Georgian statehood and overcoming the challenges facing our nation.
The Foundation was established on 8 February, 2005 at the Tbilisi Holy Trinity Cathedral, when the Holy Church and the whole Georgia celebrated the commemoration day of St David the Builder of Georgia.
His Holiness stated emphatically on the occasion: “Today is a special, historic day. The Foundation of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia was established and it will have a great importance for our country. Anybody, regardless of their religious or ethnic belonging, will have an opportunity to take part in the Foundation's activities. The Foundation will concentrate its every effort towards advancing national and state-oriented thinking. We should be aware of who we are at present, who we were in the past and who we are going to be in the future…
The Foundation will contribute not only to the revival of spirituality but also to the development of culture and science for these have a great importance for Georgia’s future. Therefore, we will maintain close ties with the Academy of Sciences of Georgia, our universities and institutions of higher education. We will do our best to assist scientists and, most importantly, we will encourage national and state-oriented thinking.”
